$2,500 in Wal-Mart Gift Cards donated to Chippewa Valley Veterans Assistance Program
The Wisconsin Leathernecks Motorcycle Club has presented the Chippewa Valley Veterans Assistance Program $2,500 in gift cards to benefit veterans being served by the program.
The gift cards, purchased from Wal-Mart, are the result of a fund-raising motorcycle ride held in August out of Diamond Bluff, WI where about 60 bikers banded together in an afternoon of great riding and a chance to further the cause of military veterans in need.
"The Veterans Assistance Program would like to thank you for your generous donation of gift cards," said Adam Kohls, site director of the VAP in Chippewa Falls.
"The veterans had the honor of meting Dan and Saundra (Dan Blanchard, state president of the motorcycle club and his wife) when they dropped off the donation, and we were very thankful as well. It is from donations such as yours where we are able to provide more for our veterans, making times easier for them."
The VAP helps homeless veterans by providing transitional housing and resources to help them achieve stable housing and income, said Kohls.
This is the second year the Leathernecks donated proceeds of a fund-raiser to the VAP. In 2012 the Leathernecks contributed nearly $2,000 to the cause.

The Leathernecks Motorcycle Club War Eagles Chapter Charity ride donates $900 to DAV Van Pool Program.
Menomonie, WI - September 15, 2011 - The War Eagles chapter of the Leathernecks Motorcycle Club (MC) donated $900 to the State Disabled American Veterans (DAV) van pool program from proceeds of their charity ride in May. The charity ride took place on May 14, 2011 where riders from the area and as far as Duluth rode in to support raising funds for the DAV van pool program. While numbers were expected to be in the hundreds of riders, there were approximately 50 riders for the event. The weather might have had a little to do with the decline in numbers. It was 43 degrees and raining throughout the day making the ride a cold and wet experience. “The veterans that use this van pool have certainly endured weather worse than this supporting our freedom; these riders here today have proven their dedication to give back to those that have supported America” commented Jason Coop, chapter Vice President.
Before a check could be presented to the Menomonie DAV, the doors closed for business. Working with the State DAV, Coop was able to secure commitment to funding the van pool program in our part of the state. In a letter from the DAV, Kenneth Kuehnl writes “Our program of assistance provides badly needed transportation to many veterans throughout the state. The monies you have provided will be used immediately to benefit those, who for a variety of reasons are unable to drive themselves. The dollars will be used to fund the van/vans which transport veterans to hospital and doctor visits in your part of the state.”
This is great news for veterans in our area who depend on this critical service. The Leathernecks MC –War Eagles chapter would like to thank the public who came out in support of this ride under less than favorable weather conditions.
